The Next Adventure

Thies, Senegal
After spending the last 10 months stateside telling tales of my bike journey, job searching, coaching, seeing old friends, making new ones it is time to embark on a professional adventure.  In May 2012 after an arduous  application process, that benefited greatly from the help of family and friends, I was fortunate enough to be selected as an English Language Fellow(ELF) thru Georgetown University and The State Department.  The fellow program places English Language teachers at educational institutions throughout the world based on the needs of the institution and the skills of the accepted fellow.  The higher ups decided that my skill set would be of the most use at  The University of Thies located in Senegal.  At this point I know very little about the assignment and the actual classes I will be teaching, but I am scheduled to arrive in Dakar on October 11th where I will have an arrival orientation with US Embassy staff before they transport me to the town of Thies about 60km east of Dakar on October 13th. Once I arrive in Thies I will be able to learn more about the assignment as I begin meeting the people I will be working with over the ten months of my fellowship. I look forward to the all the opportunities and challenges ahead and sharing them along the way.
